On Sunday, March 31, around 6:20 p.m., a 20-year-old driver from North Bay, Ontario, went off the road near 7300 Highway 148 in the Quyon sector of the municipality of Pontiac.

At the time of the incident, the driver was travelling eastbound, and according to several witnesses, was driving dangerously, speeding and passing other motorists illegally. It was while attempting a high-speed overtaking that the man lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a ditch. Due to the force of the impact, the vehicle was thrown across Highway 148, and miraculously the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Given the discovery of certain pieces of evidence, a blood sample was taken from the driver, suggesting that he was impaired by alcohol at the time of the incident. The results will be known at a later date.

The 20-year-old is expected to face charges of impaired driving and dangerous driving. The investigation is not over, and other charges are also possible.

In the next few days, an expertise will also be carried out on the vehicle. Highway 148 was closed for 12 hours.
