Let’s ensure sustainable boating on the Gatineau River
In the last few years there has been a sharp increase in recreational usage by swimmers, paddlers, floaters, and motorboaters. This increase of mixed-use has led to congestion on the narrow river which not only increases risk to human safety but also impacts the health of the river. A recent survey launched by the Friends of the Gatineau River (FOG) confirmed that river users found the river dangerous and believed that the boat wakes had a significant impact. There are also many observations of erosion of the shorelines as well as an increase of invasive species.
